W.L. Scheding (1883-1947), a pastor ordained by the General Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the U.S., served as a member of the NLC's European Commission, a group of NLC representatives who traveled throughout Europe assessing the needs and problems of Lutheran churches and their people after the events of World War I.
